Appletree Worth Ruins

There are ruins of a small deserted farmstead or village at Appletree Worth with buildings that should be explored with great caution for the collapsed walls are unstable and the ground is rocky and slippery.

In the foreground of the image can be seen the old stepping stones and site of a later ford crossing.

Appletree Worth 1890 Map

This old Ordnance Survey map shows Appletree Worth in 1890. The layout of the former buildings can be seen, together with stepping stones across the river, next to which a ford was later added, and a limekiln which was out of use by 1915.

Appletree Worth Bridge

A relatively modern, stone bridge across the beck at Appletree Worth that leads to the ruins and walking routed beyond. Probably the bridge was added to replace the old stepping stones and ford.

Inside Appletree Worth Ruins

Inside one of the ruined buildings at the back of Appletree Worth, stone windows can still be seen in the walls and what looks to be a doorway blocked up in the past in the bottom right of the image.

Appletree Worth Lime Kiln

This collapsed structure seen opposite the ruins, up the bank on the other side of the beck could be the old lime kiln shown on the map. It is difficult to make out and looks suspiciously like stone brickwork but could be a natural rock formation.
